I would apprecieate any ideas on what might have killed my cat of 8 yrs. He was a In and outdoor cat, via a doggy door. Had been all his life. Moved to Okmulgee Oklahoma in 10-05. "Key", his name, absolutely loved his new fenced yard, birds, bunnies etc. Often brining in his "kill" for my purview. He was current on all preventative shots. On late eve of June 6th,06, I found him extrememly lethargic. Time was after midnight, I thought I wait till morning. In the morning he was almost comatose. Took him to a nearby vet, the front desk person said that she didn't feel that much could be done, but when the attending vet returned I would get a phone call. Until the vet could examine Key, she said, that they would administer fluids iv in attempts to stabilize him. Althoug I called hourly until closing, no one called me back and the next morning was there when they opened. She gave me back Key who was dead, stiff etc. The attendant said that he had "just died" (I know better that rigamortis takes at least a couple of hours to set in), and tha they had administered IV fluids. I checked his body for a shaved area where the IV would have gone. I found no shaved area. I was charged $90.00 for services I am doubtful were received. I'm bitter, but too much time has gone by since his death. My question is, what do you think killed him? Symptoms were, enruesis (SP?), stiffness, balling up, lack of response to being picked up or moved except with extreme movement. Snake? Poison? Have you had any other type of animal death with like symptoms. I know that symptoms aren't definitive, but was hoping you might be able to hazard a diagnosis. Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much for your efforts. Sincerely Mary A Goodwin marylvqmrp11@yahoo.com
