I have a lovebird named Keylime. I rescued him because his previous residence cared nothing for him. Unfortunately for me, that residence was a dog training facility and he now thinks that he a dog. Earlier this week i noticed that he had some crust forming aruond his left ear. I have removed the crust and he is since doing fine (as far as I can tell). It is most likely an ear infection. Since Keylime has bonded with dogs, he can't come out of the cage often because he flys right to my dog who is just dying to eat him. Anytime I go near his cage he freaks out and throws himself against the cage bars and screams like I am the big bad wolf. He remains stressed for a long period after I am done handling him so a vet visits are generally out of the question (not to mention the cost of a bird doctor these days). Even now I have to use thick gloves to take him out of the cage to clean it because he has learned how to draw blood. I am really not sure what to do. Any advice is welcome.
