my pet dog possibly ate a maggot /just occurred

my dog got into the trash and took a piece of fried chicken and i took it away, but my concern is that i also noticed that the chicken had maggots. if my pet swallowed one or more maggots is that serious or can wait to take my pet to vet later today.
