cats for immunospressed children

I have heard that cats can be dangerous for those with suppressed immune systems.

I have a child who takes steroids on a daily basis.

Since this would classify my child as having a suppressed immune system, I was wondering if owning a cat is not worth the risk.

We have a small dog and never had a problem, but we would like to have a cat as well.

For every article that states that owning a cat can be potentially dangerous, I have read articles that state that having an indoor cat only requires proper precautions, such as the child never cleaning the litter box.

What do you think, is owning a cat too risky???

Thanks!

Eddie
