Bathroom Yelping
Posted on 2008/02/13 by UserHI. I have a springer spaniel border collie cross who is 14mo's old. He is an outside dog. 6 days ago when I got home from work I noticed he had been bleeding from the back end. He won't let us lift his tail and he is very tender by his tailbone. He tries to bite us if we lift his tail. There seems to be no evidence of getting hit or anything. He seems real sheepish towards us now too. Anytime he tries to go to the bathroom he cries and yelps. Any advice or suggestions on what this could be? His appetite is fine. He's not the same dog anymore, not sure what happened. He used to be excited when he'd see us but now he just wants to lay around. Thanks, Cheryl

Intestinal problem
Posted on 2008/02/13 by UserMy mother has an English Bulldog named Bud who ate beef sparerib bones over the weekend and now Bud has lost his appetite and is unable to go to the bathroom. My mother took him to our local vet and they gave him an enima, which helped his situation but did not remove the bones. After the enima, they x-rayed him and still saw the mass of bones. They sent Bud home hoping that either the bones would dissolve or that he would pass them. Our vet said that performing surgery would be out of the question due to the fact that Bud is on the medicine predizone and he is also overweight. Is there anything that we can do to speed up the process of dissolving the bones? Any...

Icing joints?
Posted on 2008/02/18 by UserMy 7-year old golden retriever has bad knees. Xrays ahve shown that he has partial tears in his ACL (though I can't remember exactly which ligaments are inured). I am considering surgery, but I hear that surgery may or may not improve things and may actually make it worse. In the meantime, what other options are there? We are limiting activity and do leach walks only. I have an anti-inflammatory I give him when needed. Do you recommend applying heat or ice at times when needed (like after a walk)?
