Cats

  • Allergies and/or hair loss

Every year about this time (early fall) my cat and dog both get really itchy and start to lose their fur. I mentioned it to my vet last year and she said it's not fleas but some sort of allergic reaction. I was unsuccessful in the medication she subscribed, they stopped itching several weeks later and hair grew back a few months later. Any suggestions on an over the counter medication?

  • For the last 2 days my cat has had very runny movements, and today seems to have a high temperature, slightly irregular breathing, and is occasionally vomiting up a frothy white liquid. Does this sound like just a sick cat who just needs a day or two to get better, or does it sound more serious? She does not appear to be in excruciating pain or anything, but she is less active than usual, although not to an extreme degree. We just brought a new kitten into the house, could this just be stress?

  • Surgery or not

I am trying to determine if my cat Schooley needs surgery. He started limping on his right rear leg. Took him to vet and had x-rays. They showed mild hip degeneration and a pellet shot into his right hip muscle. I have never seen any sign of injury. We haven't had him all his life. He is maybe 9 years old. He has been on 1 drop of metacam every other day. If I divert from that he will limp on the right rear leg, either lightly or painfully. Should I keep him on metacam forever although I am concerned about liver and kidney damage, or should the pellet be taken out. The vet is not convinced either way if it is hip problems or the pellet causing the problem. He...

  • Smokey's Meds

My cat is taking methamazol for her thyroid. She also has liver disease. I know methamazol can cause liver damage. Is there another kind of thyroid medication that won't cause liver damage?

  • constant crying

My male cat is crying all the time - whether he is inside or outside - How can I get him to stop

  • Hello...I hope that you can help me. I have two cats which are indoor only. They are both males, ages 9 & 10 (approx.) all of a sudden the older one went in his litter box and peed a little, then jumped on a sofa in our sun room and peed a little. (Thank goodness we have a blanket/sheet on all sofas so we don't have too much fur on them. He then went on the sofa in the Living Room and did the same. An hour later my husband saw him jump on the sofa down in our TV room and do it again. Can you please tell me why he all of a sudden is doing this? Is it possibly a bladder infection? I am hoping that you can help as we took these two cats in from...

  • Cat Cold...?

We rescued a kitten from a "bad" neighborhood and named him Max. We were unfortunate in that we were only able to save one... He was happy and healthy until a week ago. He started sneezing and developed a runny nose and sticky eyes. We do not have much money to spend on his medical care. Most went to kitten formula. What do you recommend we do for him - he looks so sad! We do the best we can to clean him as a mamma cat would normally - we use warm water on cottonballs to gently clean his nose and eyes... Please, any advise you can give is greatly appreciated.

  • New Kitten Limps

We got a new kitten yesterday, a nice little guy called Moxie and we've noticed that he favors his left front leg when he walks. He can get around fine, but he just limps more some times and less other times. He purrs a lot and likes to curl up in a chair and sleep so far. Any ideas?
