I adopted my brothers cat on Sunday and she still hasnt ate anything but is drinking water ( I put out wet food and dry every morning and night). She has been to the toilet to pee but nothing else. She is a indoors cat and we had to travel from Manchester to Glasgow which was upsetting for her. Since we got home she has hidden from us and wont come out her hiding hole. We have been given different adivse of leaving her alone or making her come out and showing her lover but I dont want to upset her more than she has already been. What should I do about her not eating? How long can she last without food? An should I leave her alone or force her out? Thank you kelly

Cat sudden weight loss and lack of...
Posted on 2009/01/31 by UserHello, our cat had renal failure last August, we took "Teddy" to a animal hospital and they gave him tests and lactate ringers solution to get rehydrated. All the levels came back to just about normal. This past week, my wife noticed Teddy getting dehydrated again so she took him to the vet and they gave him more fluid and additional blood work. When she brought him home, Teddy was very alert and active. Now, he has not eaten for the last few days as we continue to give him the ringers fluid. The vet put potassium fluid in the bag for preventative reasons due to a low/normal range of 3.7. We have given him 2.5 mgs of pepsid twice a day, but still no appetite....

Response to original doctor's reply.
Posted on 2009/02/01 by UserTeddy's urinary tract is fine along with no hyperthyroidism. He ate very well after coming back home. His weight stabilized and even gained some. All his values have been brought into range except our vet was concerned about his 3.7 rating in potassium, thus the fluid injection into the ringers bag plus he sent us home with some powder which we give him mixed with water. Thank you very much for your quick response to our first letter/question. Thank you again.

Disinfecting home and protecting a new...
Posted on 2009/03/27 by UserMy family adopted a kitten from a local italian market here. it was seemingly healthy and had a new kitten appt. scheduled for the following week. He never made it that far b/c he suddenly became ill and died at the vet ER of feline panleukopenia virus. Now we are in the process of adopting another kitten, a maine coon from a breeder. It has been vaccinated. I have not brought it home because I am afraid that even though it has had 2 sets of shots that it still might get infected from residual virus here in the house. Also the Mother died during childbirth so they were hand raised and missed out on the important colostrum. What can I use to clean and kill the virus in my...

lethargic dog
Posted on 2009/04/11 by UserWe adopted a chihuahua mix 5 months ago (Doc). He is 7 months old. we adopted a poodle mix about 2 weeks ago (Ted). He is 4 months old. I took them to the vet 4 days ago and they were diagnosed with kennel cough. Doc had a kennel cough vaccine in January and does not cough as much as Ted. Even Ted usually only coughs at night. They are both on antibiotics. Doc has increasingly become lethargic since Ted joined our family. Now, Doc has vomitted about once or twice a day for 4 days. (Yellow frothy). He doesn't eat much and is extremely lethargic. Any ideas what is going on? Ted sleeps ALOT, but plays more than Doc also.

intractable vomiting
Posted on 2007/11/27 by sergioplease help, I took my dog to the vet 2 days ago for vomiting and lack of appetite. my dog was diagnosed with GASTRITIS pb 2nd to infection. was given ranitidine every 12 hrs, metoclopramide /12 hrs, and antibiotic/12hrs. vomiting got better to 50% but he still vomits. appetite still gone. what other meds can be used as anti-emetics for a 6 m/o 8 lbs puppy. although Im not a VET I'm a MD myself and there's no other vet available around in this rural community. i'm ready to try anything. thanks, sergio
